Описание
Commissioned for the opening production of the new Lincoln Center Repertory Company, AFTER THE FALL, a major work, is Arthur Miller's first full-length play since A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE was produced on Broadway six years before.
The action of AFTER THE FALL takes place in the mind, thought, and memory of Quentin, the protagonist. The author describes the drama as a man's inadvertent quest for some key to join together the elements of his experience in the world - "to find those moments of choice when action was uniquely his own. " Quentin seeks this key especially in his relations with his parents, his brother, and the three women he has loved. The scenes and characters "follow the dark rivulets of memory into unexpected confrontations" - with politics, betrayal, the kept and broken promises of love, and finally with the placing of responsibility for those human acts which shape a life.
Like Arthur Miller's Pulitzer Prize-winning DEATH OF A SALESMAN, AFTER THE FALL was directed by Elia Kazan. The cast included Jason Robards, Jr. , in the lead.
